Bugatti Sets $6 Million Record At Mullin Auction
As predicted, the star of the Mullin Collection auction turned out to be Lot 22, a 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Aravis “Special Cabriolet.” It flew past Gooding & Company’s initial $2.5 to $3.5 million estimate and ultimately hammered for $6 million, a world record for the model.
Though one car was withdrawn late in the game and some high-profile cars came in under their estimates, the unusual auction generated $19,016,295 in sales, and the house sold 100% of the lots.
